LET'S BREAK OUT SOME MATH

DON'T WORRY. YOU'VE GOT THIS.

Wallpaper Vocabulary

  • Square Footage

You'll hear the words Square Footage and Area used when talking about wallpaper. These are all the SAME thing.

  • Roll Coverage

Roll Coverage refers to the amount of wall area (or square footage) that your roll covers. That's why we have to figure out how much square footage your wall(s) are to know how many rolls to order.

  • Pattern Repeat

The Pattern Repeat size is simply the size of the artwork before it repeats from left to right and from bottom to top.

  • Overage

When hanging wallpaper, you'll always want to order more than you need to account for waste. A 20% Overage is standard and calculated by your spaces sqaure footage X 120%.

STEP ONE: measuring your space

area (square footage) = width x height

    Measuring a Single Wall

We can plug in the measurements of the single wall and get 150 square feet.

    Area (sqft) = 15ft X 10ft
    Area (swft) = 150 sqft

*do not subtract out the area for windows and doors

area (square footage) = width x height

    Measuring Multiple Walls

We can plug in the measurements of the single wall and get 310 square feet.

    Area (sqft) = (8+15+8)ft X 10ft
    Area (sqft) = 31ft X 10ft
    Area = 310 sqft

*remember, do not subtract out the area for windows and doors

    a quick note for

Measuring an Angled or Sloped Wall

For sloped or angled walls, you will use the same math as above using the tallest part of the wall and the widest part of the wall.

*remember, do not subtract out the area for windows and doors

STEP TWO: calculating your roll count

ROLL COUNT = AREA ÷ ROLL COVERAGE

      Calculating Your Roll Count

Using the same math as above, we calculated this example as needing to cover a square footage (area) of 310 sqft.

All of our wallpaper rolls cover 60.75 square feet. To calculate the rolls needed:

      Rolls Needed = Area ÷ 60.75 sqft
      Rolls Needed = 310 ÷ 60.75 sqft
      Rolls Needed = 5.10

*rounding up at least to 6 rolls for good measure and extra wiggle room

      YOU DID IT

      YOUR MATH LESSON IS COMPLETE

Be sure to add at least a 20% overage to your roll count to add room for mistakes, waste, and for good measure.
