Wellness Within the Home
The work within the home operates under many moving parts. Different seasons bring fourth different tasks. Different roles call for different outputs of love and attention. Wellness within the home can mean lots of different things, but for me, it’s simply a sense of peace. It’s stopping to smile at a moment in time or a scene or angle of your space you’ve cultivated. It’s a million little things that either happen by accident or happen because you’ve created the moments to occur and bring joy to your space.
We need to practice putting ourselves on our to-do-list, don’t you think?

MY TOP 10 WELLNESS WITHIN THE HOME TIPS
that cultivate peace and happiness within the home
01
If you live with a roommate, spouse, or kiddos, leave a note. A quick note, laugh, or joke left on a mirror, inside of a shoe, or in the fridge is always an easy way to bring joy to that person’s day and in turn, happy moods within the home.
(not a terrible way to apologize for anything either …and maybe I know this from experience).
02
Buy the damn flowers. …better yet, forage for your own.
03
Clean out your kitchen junk drawer. I’m telling you, this one’s a 5 minute task and you will feel so much better and accomplished.
04
Rearrange the furniture, a shelf space, or your kitchen counter. Admittedly, I’m perpetually rearranging furniture. It usually starts with me moving the furniture to clean under or around it. Then my mind sees that floor space I haven’t seen in a while and well …you know. But change, even for those who typically do not love change, can be SO great for the soul.
If you’re not into big changes, simply rearrange your counter space in your kitchen or a small shelf.
05
Have a list of places you can retreat to that make coming home that much sweeter. For me, this is my backyard, a local antique/thrift store, or a local coffee shop. It can be a nice back-roads drive or your back porch. More importantly, account for these moments of escape. Don’t wait until you need them, work them in. Blocking in time for breaks is so important for the appreciation you build for your home. …because there’s nothing sweeter than coming home.
06
Bake. I mean this one’s an easy one, right? Cookies, bread, cake, muffins …is there anything better than a house that smells like anything freshly baked? I won’t lie and say I haven’t popped goodies in the oven just for the scent.
07
Shop locally when and where you can. Visit a local farmers market, flower shop, or bakery.
08
Play music ritually. As a child, the weekend mornings (and often the entire day) were filled with music. Decades later, those moments still stick with me, so it must be good, right? Music can drown out the white noise of our minds, and now more than ever, as our minds are filled with so much stuff, we need that mental distraction, right?
09
What holiday or season can we celebrate right now? I like to hang seasonal or holiday artwork depending on the time of year. It’s such a nice break from your norm and brings a sense of newness to a space.
10
This may seem silly, but is probably the most important. Play the “how do you want to feel” question at the beginning of every day. Do you want to feel accomplished? Do you want to feel restful? Asking yourself and your family this question often sets the stage for the day and allows your body to subconsciously make choices that will fuel that need.
If you want to feel rested, maybe retreat to one of those spots you listed from No. 05. If you want to feel accomplished, maybe go with something that sparks an interested from No. 03 or No. 05.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT:
I make my bed EVERY day. …except on Sunday. Sunday is my day where I leave my bed unmade to encourage my Number 05.
My honest and true hope for you is that you spend ALL the free moments you have within your home cultivating only what brings you the purest joy …whatever that is for you. Now more than ever, we are spending more time at home. I’d like to think that, in this journey, we are all learning how to create a happier and more humble space to dwell in.
