Upholstery 101

So you’ve got a project on your hands. Maybe you picked up an epic marketplace find of a chair that needs recovering. Perhaps you’re thinking those windows of yours need some custom drapes. Your next question might be “how much fabric will I need for this?” While we highly recommend consulting a professional, particularly the one that might be threading the needle for this project, we’ve got some go-to guidelines below to give you an idea of the amount of fabric yardage to estimate based on the project.

Again, we HIGHLY recommend talking to a professional regarding your project. Upholstery coverings and textile projects are case-by-case and can vastly vary based on a number of factors.

Frequently Asked Questions about Yardage & Measuring:

01. Can I order a swatch first?

Absolutely! We highly recommend ordering a fabric swatch first to get a real-live view of the colors and scale of the pattern in your space. You can order swatches directly from the online shop when you’re ready.

02. What’s the leadtime?

All yardage is made to order with a lead time of 3-4 weeks. This reduces waste and leaves the smallest carbon footprint on the earth. Because of this fact, you’ll want to me sure you round up to avoid any wait time in a situation of under-ordering.

03. What kind of fabric substrates are available?

The fabrics offered are a combination of 100% linen and a linen/cotton blend (51% linen and 49% cotton).

04. What kind of projects are best for the textiles offered?

The linen is lightweight and great for light-use pillows, draperies, and accent furniture upholstery. The blends are great for light or heavy-use pillows, draperies, and furniture upholstery.

05. What’s the width of the fabrics offered?

-linen/cotton in oyster 54”
-linen/cotton in oatmeal 54”
