Wallpaper for Small Spaces: Big Style in Compact Corners

If you’ve been around here a while, you know I'm partial to pattern. But the truth is, even I have trouble making commitments in my larger spaces. That's why I love a small-but-mighty spaces — and wallpaper is one of my favorite ways to make those tucked-away corners feel extra special. It's a great way to warm up my creative zone and let's me start expanding from there.

Whether it’s the powder room you send guests into, the hallway you walk through a hundred times a day, or that little nook you’re finally ready to show some love... wallpaper for small spaces can be a total game-changer.

Let’s Talk Wallpaper for Bathrooms

I get so many questions about wallpaper in bathrooms, especially powder rooms — and honestly? These are some of my favorite spots to go bold.

Why? Because they’re small, low-commitment, and they give you permission to have fun. You’re not staring at this space all day long, so it’s the perfect spot to try that floral print you’ve been eyeing or that rich moody tone that feels a little daring.

And don't worry. It's perfect safe to put wallpaper in a bathroom. I typically don't recommend it super close to the bathtub or high splash zones (ahh, a kids bathroom).

Otherwise, wallpaper in a bathroom is perfectly fine!

Wallpaper for the Pantry

Wallpaper in Unexpected Places (Yes, Even the Pantry)

Let’s not forget the little corners you visit every single day — like the pantry . I’m a big fan of using wallpaper in unexpected places, and the pantry is one of my favorite design secrets.

You open that door multiple times a day (especially if you have kids like I do), so why not make it cute? A playful pattern or a soft texture on the walls instantly makes it feel less like a storage closet and more like part of your home’s story.

Some of my favorite ideas:

  • Use wallpaper for pantries behind open shelves for a cozy, built-in feel

  • Try a surprise pop of pattern on the back of the door or inside a cabinet

  • Choose a design that ties into the kitchen or contrasts playfully with it

It’s the kind of tiny detail that makes you smile every time you grab the peanut butter. And honestly? That’s reason enough.

Wallpaper for Entryways & Hallways

Your entryway sets the tone — it’s the “hello” of your home. And if you’re like me, it might be a smaller space that serves a big purpose.

I love using wallpaper for entryways to add warmth and style right from the start. Whether it’s a simple stripe or a bold pattern, this is a great spot to tie in your home’s overall color palette and show a little personality.

Don’t Sleep on the Hallways

Small hallways are such an underrated canvas. These pass-through spaces are the perfect places to play with wallpaper — and I’ve done it more than once in our own home.

Some ideas I love:

  • Stripes or linear patterns to draw the eye through the space

  • Wallpaper above trim (hello, wainscoting!) for a layered look

  • Or even wallpapering the ceiling for something unexpected

Even if your hallway is narrow, wallpaper adds so much charm without cluttering the space.

Bonus: It doesn’t take much wallpaper to cover this space, so go ahead and splurge on something you really love.

Wallpaper for Small Spaces: personal tips

I’ll always love the “main character” rooms in a home — the kitchen, the living room, the bedroom. But I swear it’s these little spaces — the powder baths, the back hallways, the entry corners — that often become my favorite.

So if you’re thinking about trying wallpaper but feel overwhelmed by the idea of doing an entire room, start small. These spaces are meant for expression. They’re perfect little moments to take a design leap and let your style shine.

Go bold in small doses — you’ll surprise yourself with what you love

Match the mood to the moment — calming patterns for quiet spaces, playful ones for pass-throughs

Layer in coordinating patterns with pillows, textiles, or artwork (you know I love a pattern mix)

Use wallpaper as your color cue — pull hues from the paper into other elements to tie it all together

At the end of the day, every room in your home — even the ones you only pass through or peek into — should make you feel good.

Every corner is an opportunity to reflect your style, your rhythm, your story — and when it all comes together, your home starts to feel like it’s truly yours.

Who doesn't want to look at a pretty pattern while you're doing laundry or sneaking cookies from your kid's snack stash? #momtax
