Color of the Year …but different

the untrendy trend:

If you gave anyone who knows me a blank piece of paper and prompted that person to write 100 words about me, trendy will not be one of them. I’ve never been one to dress or style based on what’s trendy. I go for comfort - in both my apparel and home. Nonetheless, I coincidentally find trends that I do love …regardless of its popularity or maybe loved it before the internet loved it. Warm color palettes are always going to be where my eyes gravitate. Although, Peach Fuzz, the 2024 color of the year might land in the pastels, it’s really in the orange category and part of the warm palette family (IMO).

When it comes to incorporating color in a space, there are multiple ways to do it. You can boldly pop some color on the whole wall, you can incorporate it in small doses as “pops” that support your neutrals. You can also go for a subtle, more subjective monochromatic approach where you may incorporate multiple shades of a single color.

For me, my house is fully of earth tones, but you’ll find a consistent repetition of green. Not crayon green, no. But there are greens in the plants that are just THRIVING right now (because they’re not real), my piano is Sherwin Williams Green Black. When the sun hits it, you see that green undertone. I have a green stool that floats around the house, green throw blankets, green linens, in my wardrobe. Green is consistent.

You get my monochromatic point.

I’ve got a big project coming up (more on that later) and lighting is one of the first items I’ll be tackling. So, I went on a deep dive researching and as always, I end up at Schoolhouse. Investment pieces? Yes. The best quality light I’ve ever installed? Also, yes. The new season’s colors are the perfect example of how to incorporate one hue in multiple variations.

Peach? Sure. ….but like, let’s talk in terms of paint. Starting with the Peach Fuzz Pantone Color of the Year, then mix a little black and maybe a bit of crimson and end up with a butterscotch color, I’d be down with that. Maybe we mix in a little more of a red hue and end up with a burnt sienna situation for a version with more depth. Peach Fuzz may be the core, but we can invite cousin colors in to complement and underpin the palette.

More Peach Inspired Home Faves

Now that I’ve researched this color, I’m seeing it everywhere. Like I said, I tend to gravitate towards warmers colors regardless of what the interwebs says is cool. If you need to hear it, the rule of thumb for design is to do what brings you joy. If something on trend brings you joy, you’re golden. If something that isn’t trend-heavy brings you joy, guess what? You’re STILL golden.

My eyes are peachy and I’m seeing all the cousins of this color in all the ways I love - both subtly and boldly. I’ve rounded up some favorite pieces - from artwork to furniture to bedding and more.

PATTERN PLAY

Pattern is a great way to incorporate pops of colors as a counterpart to your solids and contrasting colors. This chair takes the cake for me.

We’ll round this dive out with a few peavy wallpaper favorites, that Dusty Brick Anemones a NEW addition from the recent Color Me Happy launch.

Peach Fuzz. I’m digging it, y’all.

xx,
Hope
